Concept
[para]lume was generated with Grasshopper to showcase (and prove) the huge potential of 3D printing: each [para]lume can indeed be reproduced exclusively via rapid prototyping technologies, and by design looks similar to the others, yet is unique and never the same.
Development
FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printing allows for the rapid prototyping of objects that would usually require a mold, and can process very complex details that would be impossible to achieve with other industrial methods. Furthermore, while creating molds entails the level of expense that can only be justified by industrial-scale manufacturing, 3D printing opens the door to the production of non-serial finished products.
