Interior

Concept

Within the context of Palazzo Turinetti, home to Turin’s Gallerie d’Italia museum dedicated to the art of photography, a new double culinary experience is brought to life by chefs Christian and Manuel Costardi (Costardi Bros.): contemporary gastronomy to enjoy at Scatto restaurant or its bistro, in the refined 19th-century halls of the historical Caffè San Carlo.

Historical legacy and contemporary vibe thus provide the main bearings for the interior decor of the two spaces, in continuity with the two souls of the museum, which merges the baroque heritage of the piano nobile and the clearly contemporary character of the underground exhibition spaces designed by Michele De Lucchi and AMDL Circle.

Interior

Development

To preserve the venue’s classic identity and elegance, a discerning approach created a hybrid of the traditional and graceful stylistic features of historical cafés with contemporary processes and materials.

The main feature of the large hall is the central peninsula counter, made in oak wood with Emperador marble top, which recalls the pattern of the original decorative pilasters with its relief ribbed finish.

The central role of the counter is underscored and enhanced in relation with the sumptuous pre-existing chandelier, placed exactly above it. Two red velvet sofas embrace the sides of the counter, reminiscent of typical 19th-century armchairs with their tall, tufted backs.
